COMMUNITY EVENTS
At STC, we believe in the power of community events to bring people together, foster a sense of belonging, and create lasting memories. Our community events are more than just gatherings - they are a celebration of our shared experiences, values, and aspirations.
Our community events span a range of activities and celebrations designed to engage and unite individuals of all ages. From vibrant cultural festivals to educational workshops, family-friendly activities, and more, our events aim to cater to the diverse interests of our community members.
Community events play a crucial role in promoting social connection, enhancing community spirit, and stimulating local economies. They provide a platform for community members to interact, learn from each other, and establish strong connections. They also serve as an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity and cultural heritage that make our community unique.
By facilitating these events, we at STC aim to cultivate a sense of community pride, promote inclusivity, and ensure everyone feels valued and heard. We believe in creating spaces where everyone is welcome, and everyone belongs. Our events are a testament to our commitment to community engagement and our belief in the positive impact of shared experiences.
Join us in celebrating our community and making lasting memories at our next event. We look forward to seeing you there!

KINGS CORONATION SHOWCASE
The King's Coronation Showcase Event was a phenomenal community gathering organised by Keighley Town Council. Safeguarding Through Communities (STC) engaged in partnership to contribute to this event. This celebration offered an engaging and festive experience for attendees of all ages. It was truly a momentous and historic day, held at the Church Green Car Park, where the Keighley Town Council screened the coronation live on a big screen.
The fun did not stop there. They had face painting available at multiple locations, a fire engine for children to play with, and tea cup rides. Play in Parks provided inflatables on the green, while others could enjoy a graceful tea dance outside the Parish Church.
Keighley Town Council encouraged everyone to dress as their favourite royal or literary character with a chance to win a prize for the best dressed, chosen randomly by the Mayor. The event also showcased local charitable organisations, including the Sea Cadets and us (STC), who served a variety of foods, including burgers, hotdogs, and Halal offerings.

SUMMER EID FESTIVAL 2023
The STC Eid Festival at Cliffe Castle, funded by the Keighley Town Council, was an outstanding success, attracting up to 1000 attendees of diverse backgrounds. Despite the intermittent rain, the event brought together members of our community in a day filled with joy, entertainment, and togetherness.
The Eid Festival was a vibrant display of community spirit, inclusivity, and diversity, featuring an array of entertaining activities and performances. The amusement rides provided by Marshall Amusements, including the Kids Bungie Trampoline, Disney Swing Ride, and Inflatable Activity Centre, proved to be a big hit among the younger attendees. Musical performances by Gubi Sandhu and YK had everyone, from children to elders, moving to the rhythm of their tunes. DJ Saj Cobra kept the energy high throughout the event with his infectious music selection.
In addition, GoWild Outdoors facilitated a soft archery set, offering attendees a unique and enjoyable experience. Not only was it fun, but it also provided an opportunity for attendees to learn a new skill in a safe and supportive environment. Furthermore, the youth workers organised sports activities that engaged young people.
"Despite the unpredictable weather, we were utterly amazed by the extraordinary turnout. People of all ages and backgrounds came together to enjoy the event, which truly shows the vibrant spirit of our community. This success, even in the face of rain showers, is a testament to the resilience and enthusiasm of our residents.," says the event organiser. "Community events like these keep our youth engaged and provide a welcoming environment for everyone to connect."
The event was honoured by the presence of Town Mayor John Kirby, who generously donated his raffle win - a teddy bear - to charity.
“It is great to see the town come together to celebrate the EID Festival, it is important the celebrate the diversity of Keighley and embrace all cultures in our town. It was a fun and brilliantly put together event, organised by STC and funded by our very own Keighley Town Council” Town Mayor John Kirby remarked.
Our local MP, Robbie Moore, also attended and shared his thoughts:
"It was great to attend the Summer Eid Festival at Cliffe Castle this weekend organised by Hassan Ali, STC and funded by Keighley Town Council, who all did an outstanding job in bringing our community together for a day filled with family fun, a variety of engaging stalls and some absolutely fantastic live entertainment.
Events like these are a great way to celebrate our town’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen community bonds. The food was excellent and it was brilliant to have a go at soft archery organised by Chris Calveley from GoWild Outdoors, joining many young people who also had a go. I look forward to future celebrations that continue to showcase just what Keighley has to offer.”
A special acknowledgement to the Keighley Town Council for their invaluable support in making this event possible. Their contribution and funding has played a crucial role in the success of this community-driven initiative.
“As the Chair of Events and Community Action, I am delighted with how successful the Eid Festival at Cliffe Castle on the 15th July was, it was a great day for everyone with a good turnout, despite the weather conditions. May the spirit of Eid continue to inspire us to build a more connected society for all of Keighley.” Says Cllr Abdul Shohid
The strength and diversity of our community were particularly evident in our team of volunteers, ranging in age from 16 to 50. This diverse group, with their shared commitment and passion, embodies the spirit of a truly people-led event.
"The diversity in the ages of our volunteers is a testament to the inclusivity of this event. Seeing young men and women working side by side with older volunteers to make this event a success was truly inspiring. It’s a perfect example of how this event was not just for the community but by the community," says Cllr Mohammed Nazam, Keighley Central Ward, BMDC.
We also extend our gratitude to the National Science Museum, the youth workers, and the stallholders. This event has shown that when the community comes together, we can create memorable and meaningful experiences that resonate with everyone.
The STC Eid Event has demonstrated the power of community connection and diversity, and it paves the way for more such people-led events in the future.
