OUR SAFEGUARDING
PROJECTS

STC

STC - Safeguarding through Communities C.I.C. is all about changing and shaping lives.

The work our organisation carries out is in the aim of keeping those who are most vulnerable safe and protected. We create opportunities for individuals and communities to stay safe no matter what the circumstances. STC - Safeguarding Through Communities C.I.C. provides benefit to those who will be in need of our service within the Keighley constituency. Our focus is not restricted to but will mainly be  those of the BAME communities and the different Faith communities within Keighley.

Our services include providing safeguarding mechanisms to parents, carers and faith institutions such as local Mosques and Madrassah's. We aim to keep every vulnerable child and adult within the community safeguarded and protected from anything which would have a negative effect on them.

Unfortunately due to the global pandemic, Everybody is more likely to be vulnerable due to the psychological effects they may be facing. This may be due to not seeing their friends/family which is important for maintaining quality mental well-being. Everyone’s witnessing all these deaths during this pandemic, whether it’s on the news or a death of a loved one which could increase worry or anxiety as death becomes a reality for both vulnerable adults and children and this could affect their mental well-being dramatically, making them feel more vulnerable.

WAYS WE HELP

Meaningful Work. Unforgettable Experiences.

BEFRIENDING SERVICE

With this service, our goal is to spread love and give company to those feeling alone and vulnerable such as the elderly.

Due to COVID-19 people are isolating in their homes. Whilst being stuck in their homes, the vulnerability of adults/children/elderly has increased and the need for safeguarding is at its upmost.

STC offer a befriending service for the vulnerable people within our community. This service is to provide comfort for those who are lonely or in need of comforting or even for those who just want someone to talk to and listen to them as loneliness has a serious effect on someone’s mental health as they could be feeling neglected. During these unprecedented times, we shall be following government guidance hence this service will be provided over video/telephone calls. However, as lockdown eases our operations shall improve.

STC connects people within the community so that those who may be feeling alone in such times where many of us will be isolating or social distancing have some company and at least one person who they may talk to.

SAFEGUARDING THROUGH FAITH INSTITUTIONS

STC will work with Imams, teachers, committee Members and parents of children at the Mosques and Madrassah's to ensure they are doing everything in their power to tackle any safeguarding issues and ensure the safety and protection of the children is put above all else.

It is important for the parents to get involved with the mosque so they can see for themselves how the mosques are working to ensure the children are safeguarded.

For example, we will work with the team at the mosque to implement safeguarding procedures and the teachers will all have DBS checks to ensure they are of suitable character to be looking after children. This should help the parents feel as though their children are safe whilst they are at mosque.

SAFEGUARDING THROUGH PARENTING

At STC - Safeguarding through Communities C.I.C., we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing safeguarding issues.

We have conducted surveys and found parents, especially from BAME communities, did not know what the term safeguarding was or meant. Those who do understand part of its meaning, also consider it as something of a threat from "official bodies" and an undesirable invasion of the family unit, rather than a means of help and support. Therefore we aspire to make sure every parent within the community understands what the term ‘safeguarding’ really means.

We will provide comfort for parents so they can discuss this without feeling threatened. Building a bond with the parents is a vital part of the charity; so parents can feel comfortable talking about any safeguarding problems or ask any questions regarding safeguarding. This will give the parents an opportunity to open up about any safeguarding issues they may have themselves, so we can assist in breaking down the problems which they may be facing to ensure the children are safeguarded.

SAFEGUARDING THROUGH ONLINE MEDIA

Over the year’s, concern for safeguarding on media and the internet have grown considerably.

In this modern day, nearly all children have access to internet which means they are exposed to many things which they shouldn’t be seeing and their also exposed to dangerous people such as predators or cyber bullies which they could meet online. Online grooming is becoming a major threat to the children of this generation due to the advancement of technology.

STC will introduce safeguarding mechanisms to children and adults to over come these concerns such as introducing parents to sites such as net-aware etc.

SAFEGUARDING THROUGH COMMUNITY INTEGRATION & PROMOTING DIVERSITY

STC's safeguarding efforts extend beyond families and online spaces, with a project focused on promoting community integration and diversity. The project recognizes that social isolation and exclusion can leave vulnerable individuals at risk of harm, and seeks to address these issues by fostering community connections and promoting diversity. By bringing people from diverse backgrounds together and providing opportunities for social engagement, the project aims to create a sense of belonging and inclusion that can help prevent harm and promote well-being.

The Safeguarding Through Community Integration and Diversity project is an important initiative that can help reduce the risk of harm and promote well-being among vulnerable individuals. By promoting social connections and inclusion, the project can help prevent social isolation and exclusion, which can be key risk factors for harm. STC's commitment to safeguarding through community integration and diversity highlights the organisation's dedication to promoting the well-being and safety of all members of the community.

Overall, promoting integration and diversity is an important aspect of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children. By addressing social isolation and exclusion, the project can help create safer and more inclusive communities that support the well-being and safety of all members.
